Morristown Power System (MPS) is committed to provide the best power quality possible to its
customers. Realizing thatelectrical storms and animals provide the greatest cause of power outages, MPS has significant lightning protection on its transmission and critical distribution lines. MPS has an aggressive tree trimming policy to minimize the outages caused from trees and animals. Outages are tracked carefully to accurately calculate reliability indices, which are trended for internal performance and measured against national average.
MPS also has a program in place to provide power quality metering of industrial feeders to record power disturbance events to sub-cycle accuracy. MPS uses this to inform customers of the type of outages that affect their processes and assist customers in the best alternatives to mitigate the production upsets caused by power interruptions and disturbances.
Together, MPS and TVA provide power quality monitoring services for detailed studies of power quality inside industrial facilities. For further information on these services, contact Jody Wigington, Director of Engineering.
The Rules and Regulations of our standard power contract require that customers operate their electrical system within the guidelines of IEEE 519 Standards for allowable harmonic content. This assures that MPS and other customers on our system are not negatively affected by rich harmonic loads from an adjacent customer.
