Power System Maintenance Evaluation
MPS has a program to evaluate and maintain the integrity of the power system from top to bottom, a head to toe approach. The program areas include the following:
Delivery Point Substations (where power is received from TVA)
1. Maintenace & Testing of Transformers, Breakers and Battery Systems
2. TVA Loss Control and Verification
3. Oil Testing of major transformers
69kV Transmission System
1. Pole and line inspection every 5 years
2. Vegetation Management to assure Right of Ways are cleared every 3 years
Distribution Substations
1. Maintenance of Transformers and Load Tap Changers
2. Oil testing of Transformers
3. Maintenance & testing of breakers and bettery systems
4. Testing of TVA revenue meters
5. Semi-annual infrared testing of switches, arrestors & transformers
Primary Distribution (13.8kV) System
1. Recloser and capacitor inspection every 3 hours
2. Pole base survey & treatment (10 year cycle)
3. Overhead primary line inspections (10 year cycle)
4. Operations testing of 3-phase disconnect switches (5 year cycle)
5. Semi-annual infared testing of switches, capacitors, arrester, underground transitions and transformers
6. Vegetation Management to assure Right of Ways are cleared every 3 years
Customer Meters
1. Residential meters - test every 10 years
2. Demand meters - test every 5 years
3. Primary meter installations (larger customers) - test every 3 years
